In its intervention in the Human Rights Council … Maat strongly condemn the Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people
Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights presented an intervention to the International Commission of Inquiry into the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, under item 7 of the Human Rights Council, on the sidelines of its participation in the 40th session of the Council in Geneva.
The intervention affirmed that the Israeli occupation forces violated the international human rights conventions and laws. Whereas, the Israeli forces used excessive force in their response to peaceful Palestinian demonstrations demanding their right of returning to their home and breaking the siege imposed on the Gaza Strip.
Furthermore, since the beginning of the protests, 184 Palestinian demonstrators, including 21 children and 3 medical personnel, have been killed, more than 17,420 have been hit by live ammunition, 530 have been suffocated by gas and soldiers have repeatedly shooted fire towards the demonstrators. The occupation Israeli army also launched incessant air and artillery strikes against the Gaza Strip that killed 37 Palestinians, including at least five civilians.
Maat asserted that the Israeli authorities have continued to violate all international laws and norms that have been recognized by international law, of which, Israel is totally ignoring. Whereas, Israel practices all kinds of violations against Palestinian detainees, especially medical negligence.
In addition, the Israeli authorities continued to expand settlements in the occupied West Bank and systematically discriminate against Palestinians in favor of settlers in providing services, allowing freedom of movement, issuing building permits and other measures.
Moreover, Maat condemned the Israeli practices and crimes against the Palestinian people and supported the Palestinian request to refer the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, to the International Criminal Court to investigate and prosecute Israeli forces’ actions against peaceful demonstrators since the 30 of March, 2018.
Maat also recommended the immediate suspension of all Israeli violations against the Palestinian people and ending the imposed siege for more than a decade on Gaza Strip, as a collective punishment by Israel against the residents of Gaza Strip. Furthermore, Maat recommended taking all measures to implement all international resolutions condemning Israeli practices against the Palestinian people.
