Okeil: 2019 is a year of grief and victims of terrorist operations
President of Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights, Ayman Okeil stated that 2019 witnessed many terrorist incidents, during the Foundation’s seminar entitled “Terrorism: Twist Versus Confrontation.” Okeil pointed out that in 2019 alone, from January to mid-August, 1334 extremist attacks were carried out, leaving 5,906 deaths.
Each terrorist group had a share of these brutal crimes. ISIL had the largest and most brutal share with 308 attacks, resulting in 1,259 deaths, followed by the Taliban with 157 attacks, leaving 1,154 deaths, al-Shabaab, in Somalia, with 54 attacks, leaving 257 deaths, and Boko Haram with 70 attacks, leaving 487 deaths.
“These figures show that we are facing more brutal terrorism and such terrorist operations are expected to increase due to the development of the capabilities of these groups,” Okeil said.
