The Parliamentary Elections Observatory of the Joint International Mission to Follow up the Parliamentary Elections “Egypt 2015 issued a report to monitor terrorist crimes during the first quarter of 2015 (January - March 2015), which includes a quantitative analysis of the results of the weekly monitoring and the weekly reports published by the observatory during the last period amounting to 13 Report covering 13 weeks.
The report revealed that during the first quarter of 2015, Egypt witnessed 1,003 various terrorist crimes. By analyzing the time context of these crimes, and the nature of their objectives, the report concluded a set of facts that can be highlighted the most important of which are as follows: -
1- The week of March 6-12, 2015 witnessed the largest number of terrorist events (18%), the week immediately preceding the holding of the economic conference in Sharm El-Sheikh, and the weeks that witnessed the opening of the door for candidacy for the parliamentary elections, the holding of the economic conference, the closing of the door for candidacy, The conclusion of the preparations for the Arab summit has also witnessed high rates of violent and terrorist practices (11% of total incidents per week).
2- The weeks coinciding with the holding of the economic conference and the opening of candidacy for the parliamentary elections witnessed the maximum geographical spread of violent incidents (20-21 governorates).
3- The majority of terrorist crimes targeted civilians and civilian targets at a rate of 76% compared to 24% for police and military purposes, and the highest rates of targeting civilian targets (citizens - facilities - non-military installations) were in the weeks coinciding with the opening of candidacy for Parliament elections, the economic conference (82%-83%) was held )
4- The weeks coinciding with the opening of the door for candidacy for the parliamentary elections witnessed the largest rates of targeting citizens' gatherings by terrorist groups with rates ranging between (50-52%)
5- The fourth week coinciding with the commemoration of the 25 January 2011 revolution witnessed the highest targeting of public facilities and services (41%).
6- The first and second weeks of 2015 witnessed the highest rate of targeting of the armed forces and police and their installations, with rates ranging between 46-47% of the total number of incidents.
7- The tenth week coinciding with the conclusion of the preparations for the economic conference witnessed the largest targeting rates for universities and schools (10% of the total events during the same week)
8- The week coinciding with the commemoration of the January 25 revolution, 2011 witnessed the highest targeting of judges and courts, with a percentage of 9% of the total terrorist incidents during the same week.
9- The first week coinciding with the Christmas celebrations witnessed the highest targeting rates for houses of worship (15% events during the same week).
10- The second week of the year (January 8-15) and the eleventh week coinciding with the holding of the economic conference witnessed the highest targeting rates of economic and investment establishments, with rates ranging from 5-6% of the total events during the same weeks.
