Targeting Workers in Libya by Armed Militias

Preface

With the transfer of fighting lines to the midst of Libya and the deterioration of its security situation, international condemnations of the violations committed by terrorist militias against migrant workers to Libya increased, as acts of revenge against these workers by militias and armed groups escalated, as they kidnapped workers and took them hostages to demand ransom. In addition to being tortured, robbed and ill-treated in official and unofficial places of detention, and subjected to unlawful killing, racial discrimination, and other forms of inhuman treatment, according to international statistics only during the first quarter of 2021 more than 6000 immigrants were exposed to grave dangers during the They try to flee Libya, due to being attacked by armed militias and the danger of being trafficked, in search of a better life in Europe. All of this comes in parallel with the high unemployment rate in Libya to 18.62% in 2020 compared to the unemployment rate in 2019, which reached 18.56%. All these facts are considered as an explicit violation of migrant workers' rights stipulated in international human rights conventions. Therefore, this report deals with documenting and monitoring the range of violations caused by militias and armed terrorist groups against migrant workers to Libya, explaining the suffering they suffered during the period of 2019. Until 2021, and the extent of its criminalization in international agreements.
