Arrests and extrajudicial killings continue in # Ethiopia

A human rights organization, in a report issued last Friday, accused the Ethiopian security forces of executing 39 supporters of the # opposition and arresting thousands of others for supporting the opposition faction “# Oromo Liberation Army”.

At first, the Ethiopian army, the Prime Minister’s office, and the Oromia and Amhara police ignored requests for comment on the incident. The human rights report was published on an international scale Friday, and the Federal Attorney General’s office finally responded on Tuesday that it had seen the report and will start investigations.

Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights condemns the ongoing violations of human rights that put the lives and freedom of many on the line. # also calls on the Ethiopian government to quickly respond to the human rights reports of non-governmental organizations, and stresses the need to expedite the announcement of the results of investigations into this incident and similar incidents to it that have not been announced so far.
