Mediterranean bloody sea ... law enforcement must be held accountable as well

Last Monday, the Libyan authorities shot dead 3 Sudanese # migrants as they attempted to escape while being transported to a detention center after disembarking from a boat that failed to transport them to # Europe via #-Mediterranean.

It is worth noting that law enforcement officials commit about 47% acts of violence against African migrants # during their journey across the shores of the Mediterranean, while in the past accusations were directed mainly at smugglers and human traffickers, according to the UNHCR # Refugee Agency.

These violations include exposure to severe abuse from #, torture and violence, which in some cases leads to death. Official figures indicate that 1,750 people died in 2018 and 2019 while trying to reach the sea.

Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights condemns the inhumane treatment of the law enforcement authorities; Especially in Libya with migrants and refugees. The Libyan government demands that it assume its responsibility for the extrajudicial killing, and the Foundation calls for fair and prompt international accountability to stop this violent deal.
