Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights started today, Sunday, its first training workshop to build the capacity of journalists and media professionals to cover issues related to the recommendations of the UPR 2014, and the training workshop is the fifth in the program that consists of eight training workshops divided into two phases, as the first phase has been concluded The training program in September 2016, which succeeded in building the capacity of 100 media professionals in all governorates of the republic on the international system for human rights, the universal periodic review and recommendations submitted to Egypt through it, the role of the media in following up the implementation of recommendations, in addition to how the media intervened in the state's public policy making and put forward Priority issues on the government agenda to be adopted during relevant government actions.
  It is worth noting that the second phase of the training program focuses on implementing media campaigns and how to make them successful, with the aim of influencing public policy-making, amending and approving new legislation, adopting national plans and public budgets that respond to Egypt's international obligations, especially the UPR recommendations.
The second phase of the training program was inaugurated by Mr. Ayman Akil, President of Maat Foundation, who emphasized in his speech the vital role that the media plays in improving human rights conditions at the local and national levels as an integral part of civil society, especially in light of the passage of two years since Egypt adopted the results report. Of the 2014 Universal Periodic Review and the need for constant reminders to the government by all concerned parties of their international obligations that they must fulfill. He emphasized that the mid-term evaluation session on progress in implementing recommendations will be in March 2017 during the 34th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, which requires uniting efforts on the part of all stakeholders with the aim of helping the Egyptian state to actively participate in discussions on progress in implementing the recommendations and the importance of Establishing UPR recommendations as a priority while adopting any future government measures during the next two years.
