The joint international local mission to follow up on the parliamentary elections “Egypt 2015” held an expanded meeting with a number of journalists and representatives of various media, with the participation of a large group of international experts.

The meeting included discussions of the participants with the leaders and officials of the mission, who are: Mr. Felix Mutati, a member of the COMESA Elders Committee and the former Zambian Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr. Luay Deeb, President of the International Network for Rights and Development, Professor Ayman Aqil, President of Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights and the local coordinator of the mission.

Mr. “Mutati” indicated that his last visit to Egypt was in the 2014 presidential elections, stressing that democracy calls for continuity and that civil society has a major role in the electoral process. He said that COMESA is participating this time with a huge team of international observers and experts.

Dr. Luay Dabb also said that the Egyptian people are on their way to the stage of democratization and added that the international mission has reached 70 percent of its followers, and that all members of the mission will be completed on Friday, bringing their number to 150 international observers and experts.

Deeb pointed out that this mission is unique, because it includes the COMESA organization, whose membership includes more than 19 countries, in addition to two large international organizations, namely the International Network for Rights and Development and the International Institute for Peace, Justice and Human Rights, and a large local organization with long experience, Maat for Peace. Development and human rights, and the mission includes observers and experts from 42 nationalities representing all continents of the world.

Ayman Aqil, head of Maat Foundation and the mission's spokesperson, stated that the mission is following about 164 departments at the level of the Republic, and it is scheduled to spread in 70 departments in the first phase, through 37 teams, each team consisting of a representative of COMESA and a representative of the International Network for Rights And a representative of the International Institute for Peace, Justice and Human Rights and a local observer from the Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights team, in addition to a translator

Aqeel also said that the mission started the follow-up since January 2015 and followed the social, political and security environment in which the electoral process is taking place, and the mission issued dozens of evaluation reports for the climates related to the electoral process, including 39 reports on violence and terrorism crimes in Egypt and their impact on the political process and the democratic process.
