Algeria complains France at the United Nations for its crimes

Last week, the world celebrated # International Mine Risk Awareness Day on April 4th. And in the same week; Algeria submitted a report to the United Nations that included the numbers of victims of mines planted by the French colonialists in the country of "a million martyrs."

This UN report condemns the crimes of French colonialism, and presented figures on the size of the human losses caused by the mines after the outbreak of the liberation revolution in the 1950s, which amounted to about 8 million and 800 thousand anti-personnel mines, which required the clearance of about 62 thousand hectares of Algerian lands, The number of victims of these mines reached 7,300, and caused a disability of at least 20% to those who survived them. For the first time since Algeria's independence 58 years ago, # Algeria is filing a complaint against French colonialism that lasted 132 years.

It should be noted that Algeria signed the "Ottawa Mine Ban Treaty" on December 3, 1997, and it entered into force on April 30, 2002. While Algeria did not obtain the mine map from # France until 2007.

Maat Foundation continues to support the Algerian government and people’s request to provide compensation for human rights violations as well as the nuclear tests in the Algerian Sahara during the French colonialism. It also demands France to pay compensation for planting mines, not just an apology, especially since the cost of clearing mines exceeds the cost of planting them.
