Direct Democracy Requires the President's Stepping Down at the Behest of Tens of Millions

After 24 hours on the first statement for the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) where the SCAF gave the political powers 48 hours to consent and respond to the protesters' demands, and all the active groups and political powers announced their position on the current situation and stated their demands in official statements. When the Egyptian people chose their unique way to express their reactions to the Armed Forces deadline, along with committing to their irreversible request, according to field monitors and eyewitnesses, and documented videos and pictures from Egypt's squares, the last few hours has witnessed the existence of tens of millions of protesters in the streets and squares calling for Morsi's resignation. Based on that, the signing organizations on this statement stress the following: • Praising the security apparatuses stance for taking the people's side, along with urging them to intensify their efforts to protect the demonstrators' right in peaceful protesting. • Condemning the escalating verbal and physical violence by the Muslim Brotherhood and their allies the Jemaah Islamiyah, when Al Noor Party took a positive and responsible patriotic stance towards the current situation. • The millions of demonstrators in the squares are expressing "direct democracy" which represents a referendum on the path that should be followed by the Head of the State to step down and calls for early presidential elections. Therefore, the signing organizations take the popular will's side and demand president Mohammed Morsi to step down to stop the bloodshed in Egypt. • Calling the Armed Forces, political parties and powers, youth movements to take the measures for a new transitional period including measures to guarantee the transfer of power to free elected authorities and competent government to respond to the legitimate people's rights and protect their political, social and economic rights. • Call the Muslim Brotherhood and their allies the Jemaah Islamiyah to stop threatening to resort to violence, and to take their patriotic responsibility and respond to the people's will.
