Pardoning prisoners in Algeria ... a positive step in light of Covid 19

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune issued a new presidential pardon for 4,700 prisoners, which is the second largest in the era of the current Algerian president after the first amnesty issued by # Tebboune last February that included about 10 thousand # prisoners.

The Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights believes that these positive steps will improve the general political climate in the country at that stage the country is going through. Maat Foundation appreciates the release of these large numbers, which is considered in favor of physical distancing measures, in light of the spread of the # Covid-19 pandemic, and the associated fears of spread among prisoners.
