Violence in northern Nigeria ... Maat warns of a security and humanitarian disaster

Violence in northwestern Nigeria has led to about 30,000 refugees fleeing since last April, to join the Nigerian refugee tally announced by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Which reaches about 240,000 Nigerian refugees and more than 2 million internally displaced people in Nigeria. While there are 550,000 people in Cameroon, Chad and Niger only.

The Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights is extremely concerned about the security situation that is made worse by terrorism and internal violence in Nigeria. And warns that the lack of control at the present time over the resulting security and humanitarian situation, may herald a major disaster, whose effects will be reversed. Not just Nigeria, but all of West Africa.
