In its efforts to rehabilitate and reintegrate marginalized groups in the Egyptian community, Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights continued the implementation of "Rehabilitation and Integration" Project in cooperation with the Swiss Foundation Drosos.
Where the Foundation organized an educational camp for young people from the regions (Imbaba - Bulaq Al Dakrour - Atfih - Al Khalifa - Al Basateen and Dar Al Salam - Helwan and Al Maasara) with the participation of a number of social and psychological specialists and the project team.
The camp targeted 58 students in the age group 14 to18 years old, and was carried out over 3 days with the participation of students from families of prisoners and detainees and students from ordinary families in order to break the psychological barriers and to integrate and empower students of families of prisoners from engaging in community activities.
The camp's agenda included many interactive training sessions with students and included topics related to life skills, including the art of dialogue. Expressing opinions, as well as debates were held among children, on issues of inclusion and acceptance of abnormal families in society, as well as the harms of smoking.
The participants in the camp also made drawings (artistic mural) in which he expressed the extent of adherence to national unity, represented by drawing the crescent with the cross and embracing them with the Egyptian flag.
In addition, the participants in the communication skills and teamwork session presented a number of models represented by how to build a tower with the available tools.
The camp included summer parties aimed at integrating and rehabilitating them together. Including recitation of poetry and artistic performances presented by the participants and work together in preparing and directing them.
There was also the discovery of some individual artistic talents through singing and music.
Also, there was organizing cultural competitions between the participants to find out the cultural, religious and scientific information of the participants, and to distribute gifts to the winners.
Social workers and psychologists also held individual and group sessions with the participants to study the social and psychological conditions that hinder the integration of this category into society.
And one of the most important things that was monitored by the work team as a challenge to integrate this group into society was the society’s view of these families as being partners with what the prisoner did wrong.
Likewise, families 'own lack of confidence in society's acceptance of them and their feeling of not standing next to them, and their sense of oppression, social injustice, neighbors' looks, and marginalization in life matters
