Restrictions on the right to education in the occupied Palestinian territories

A written intervention submitted by Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights regarding restrictions on the right to education in the Occupied Palestinian Territories

Submitted to: The 41st session of the Human Rights Council

Concerning: Item 3 of the Special Rapporteur's report on the right to education (Human Rights Council Resolution 35/2)

Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights (Egypt) expresses its grave fear of the continuation of violations committed by the Israeli authorities against the Palestinian people, especially with regard to the illegal restrictions imposed on the right to education, despite some assistance provided by international bodies that see Maat as insufficient To advance the conditions of education, especially in light of the difficult economic conditions that the Palestinians live in in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, especially in light of the state of siege imposed on them, which extends for more than a decade. This has negatively affected the future of students in the Gaza Strip, including students who stopped studying due to their inability to pay university fees, and pre-university education students, who were reluctant to enroll in local universities due to the deterioration of the economic conditions in the sector. The educational system has become very fragile due to the attacks carried out by the occupation forces in the West Bank, Gaza and Jerusalem, and their arbitrary decisions, such as withdrawing UNRWA schools permits run by the United Nations agency, and other practices that will be addressed by the intervention.
