Cameroon, extrajudicial execution

After more than two months of denials, the Cameroonian government admitted that three government soldiers killed civilians including children in an English-speaking area of the village of Ntambo in the west of the country on February 13, 2020., In an extrajudicial killing.
After the government had previously denied any role in that process, international pressure - governmental and non-governmental - finally pushed it to admit.

However, casualty figures are conflicting, as the government says its soldiers are responsible for killing 13 civilians, including 10 children. Meanwhile, the United Nations estimates that 23 civilians, including 15 children, were killed.
This is the same discrepancy in the numbers of participants and those responsible for the accident, as the government claims only 3 soldiers responsible, while estimates of non-governmental organizations in the country monitor the participation of Between 10 and 15 soldiers from the elite Rapid Intervention Battalion backed by "at least 30 armed" militia.

Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights calls for holding those involved, participants and assistants accountable in these extrajudicial executions, while speeding up investigations and announcing their results with transparency to global, regional and local public opinion.
