The Missing in Africa: Maat calls for a database to facilitate linking between regions

Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights expresses its grave concern over some recently published international statistics on the number of # missing in Africa. As of the end of June 2020, there are about 44,000 missing # in Africa, of which nearly 45% are minors at the time of their disappearance.

In addition, about 82% of the cases were recorded last year in # Nigeria, # Ethiopia, # South-Sudan, # Somalia, # Libya, # Democratic Republic of the Congo and # Cameroon.

Maat Foundation believes that # Covid_19 has made the task of finding these missing people more difficult in light of mobility obstacles during the pandemic. While the reasons for the spread of this phenomenon are due to various reasons revolving around climate change, conflict, violent terrorism and unregulated migration.

The Maat Foundation joins the international demands of the aforementioned governments to recognize the tragedy of missing persons and assume their responsibility to prevent disappearance and take measures to search for missing persons through databases that facilitate linking regions to each other, and to identify meeting points for the collection and recovery of missing persons.
