Nelson Mandela International Day: An opportunity to remember rejection of racism

On July 18 of each year, the world celebrates # International_Nelson_Mandela_Day, in recognition of the contributions of the former South African President to the culture of peace and freedom, the consolidation of the # principles of peace, conflict resolution and inter-ethnic relations, the # promotion of human rights and protection of vulnerable groups.

Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights affirms that we need to evoke the spirit and values of Nelson # Mandela, especially those related to the fight against racism # in all its forms, at a time when ethnic strife and discrimination on the basis of sex, color and religion are increasing in all parts of the world.

From the standpoint of the ability of culture and art to influence human values, we recommend a series of films on Mandela's autobiography and his struggle against apartheid #, in order to draw lessons from it about freedom, equality, and the rejection of violence and extremism:

  • Goodbye Bafana (2007).
  • Mandela Long Walk to Freedom (2013).
  • Mandela and de Klerk (1997).
  • Meeting Mandela: A Staying Alive Special (2003).
  • Invictus (2009).
