The horrific human rights violations in Mali ... the continuing absence of accountability

Since the start of 2020, at least 580 civilians have been killed in central Mali # due to local violence. The United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali documented 83 incidents of violence. Militias of the # Fulani group were responsible for at least 71 of these incidents, while the militia of the # Dogon tribe carried out 12 attacks from them.

Unfortunately, such attacks were exploited by Al Qaeda in the Maghreb, 1 TP3T, ISIS in the Greater Sahara, and the Islam and Muslim Support Group, among others. Since the beginning of the year, armed groups have been responsible for 105 human rights violations in central Mali, with a total of 67 incidents of # killed.

Government security forces were also implicated in human rights violations, and 230 cases of # documented extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions.

Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights includes its voice for the voice of #, the High Commissioner for Human Rights, in that “local violence is increasing due to the # lack of accountability” that has continued since the beginning of the year for the same repeated incidents, and it undermines the residents' confidence in state institutions, which makes them resort to armed groups to protect them.

Maat Foundation urges the security authorities in Mali to exercise caution and restraint while facing this increasing violence, so as not to rush towards more violations of #.
