The first group of international observers for the joint international local mission to follow up on the parliamentary elections “Egypt 2015” arrived in Cairo today. Cairo Airport received 40 international observers. The number of international observers and experts, members of the mission, is expected to reach 150 observers and experts on October 16th.

The joint international local mission is the largest ever among international and local follow-up missions to the ongoing electoral process in Egypt, as it includes two international institutions, namely the International Network for Rights and Development in Norway, and the International Institute for Peace, Justice and Human Rights in Geneva, and their local partner and coordinator of the mission's work in Egypt, Maat Foundation for Peace Development and human rights, and the mission also includes the Common Market for Southern and Eastern Africa (COMESA)

Ayman Aqil, head of the Maat Foundation and the official spokesperson for the mission, stated that refresher training sessions will be held on 16-17 for members of the delegation from observers and international experts, including a presentation of the legal and procedural frameworks governing the electoral process in Egypt, as well as a presentation of instructions that observers and experts must adhere to According to the regulatory decisions issued by the Supreme Elections Committee.

Aqeel also said that the mission is about to hold a number of meetings with the media, parties and the Egyptian state authorities to get closer to the preparations related to the electoral process and to evaluate each party.

With regard to communication with the members of the mission, Ayman Akil stated that a number of press interviews and TV and radio interviews are being arranged for members of the mission and their dates are set according to the delegation's work agenda, and he indicated that the mission will be run through a central operations room at the Novotel Airport Hotel, and it is possible to communicate directly with the spokesperson. The mission is to arrange meetings and interviews.
