The impact of refugees in Egypt due to the Corona virus

As of June 2019, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees registered more than 249,000 refugees and asylum seekers in # Egypt, of whom more than 43,000 were from Sudan. They represent the second largest nationalities of # refugees living in Egypt, in addition to the nationalities of # Eritrea, 1 TP3T Ethiopia, 1 TP3T Iraq, 1 TP3T South_Sudan, 1 TP3T Syria and 1 TP3T Yemen.

After the spread of the # Covid_19 pandemic, specifically since mid-March 2020, the UNHCR has reduced its activities, with its commitment to continuously provide financial aid. The UNHCR advised refugees and asylum seekers to follow the recommendations provided by the Egyptian authorities, especially the Ministry of Health and Population and the Ministry of Interior, to deal with the virus.

Refugees in Egypt suffer due to the economic repercussions of Covid 19, which Egyptians suffer as well. However, these repercussions had a more severe impact on these refugees, especially African refugees.

Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights recommends that the Egyptian government work to provide more in-kind and material assistance to the groups affected by them, as part of government efforts to contain the repercussions of the crisis at all levels.
