Child recruitment in Central Africa

The National Assembly of the Central African Republic has adopted a Child Protection Law; It criminalizes the recruitment and exploitation of children. It also addresses the grave violations that children are subjected to, such as sexual violence, as well as the need to consider these child soldiers as "victims."

This comes after agreement on a political agreement for peace and reconciliation signed in February 2019, which is prohibited in some of its provisions; Grave violations against children, and calls for the release of more than 250 children from armed groups in 2019. On the other hand, the Central African Republic ratified the Optional Protocol on the recruitment of children on September 21, 2017.

The Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights calls on the government in Central Africa to implement the provisions of the Optional Protocol on child recruitment, including the emphasis on rehabilitation programs for child soldiers after their release.
