Turkey sends mercenaries to fight with Azerbaijan against Armenia

Maat: The international community must act to deter Turkey’s use of Syrian children in the fighting

Okeil: The Turkish and Iranian intervention between Armenia and Azerbaijan is fueling the internal conflict and exacerbating the humanitarian crisis

The Nagorno-Karabakh region – a site of conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan – is witnessing severe violence between the two countries, which resulted in many civilian casualties, amid Turkish support for Azerbaijan and Iranian support for Armenia.

The conflict witnessed new horizons, with Turkey sending several Syrian mercenaries in the conflict zone to stand by the Azerbaijani army, in violation of United Nations decisions and causing numerous violations of human rights and international humanitarian law.

Resolution 2000/3 of the Human Rights Committee condemns any state that has permitted or tolerated the recruitment, financing, training, mobilization and transfer of mercenaries, affirming strict adherence to the principles of equal sovereignty, political independence, and territorial integrity of states, and not to use force or threaten to use it in international relations, and not to interfere in the affairs that It falls within the internal jurisdiction of states.

For his part, Ayman Okeil, President of Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights stated that Turkey is exploiting the Syrian people to fight in order to achieve its political goals, and this calls for taking serious positions by the international community to deter Turkish interventions in Syria, Libya and Azerbaijan.

In this regard, Maat For Peace renews its condemnation of the Turkish actions that it continues to practice in different regions other than the conflict zone between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and calls on the international community, the relevant UN agencies and the Special Rapporteur on the use of mercenaries to investigate the use and transfer of Turkey of about 4000 people from Syria and their use to fight with the Azerbaijani army against Armenia .

Maat For Peace also calls on the international community to exert pressure on Turkey to deter the interfering in the affairs of other countries and to use mercenaries to achieve political causes.
