The situation of Human Rights in Eritrea

In June 2018 Eritrea entered a new era of peace and friendship with its neighbors "Ethiopia, Djibouti and Somalia" in light of changes in the Horn of Africa. It has been putting the first lines of the relative calm in the region. Eritrea has been elected as a state member in the Human Rights Council by the United Nations General Assembly. Also, the arms embargo on Eritrea has been lifted by the Security Council, and Journalists have been approved to enter the country. In addition, The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has been invited by the government to visit the country and organize a workshop on human rights and the administration of justice. However, this has not been reflected on the situation of human rights in Eritrea. Suppression, closing the civil space, the deterioration of economic and social rights and other violations of the international humanitarian law are continuous.

In this regard, Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights (Egypt) presents this report; in order to observe and analyze the situation of human rights in Eritrea, which continues to be deteriorated with regard to the basic rights in light of slow and poor governmental preparation to reform that does not fit the requirements of reality.
