Even wildlife is not exempt from terrorism in the DRC!

At least 17 people were killed after an armed attack on a vehicle carrying civilians near Virunga National Reserve, in eastern DR Congo.

The Congo Institute for Nature Conservation announced that, near the main section of the national reserve, militants opened fire on a vehicle carrying civilians. Fingers accuses Hutu militia for this attack.

The Virunga National Reserve is world-famous, as it is dedicated to protecting the gorillas, which only live in this area. Park rangers are always under attack from various militias and wild hunters. At a time, which is active in eastern Congo, several militias are struggling to control the natural resources available in the region.

The Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights recommends that more preventive measures be taken to protect wild and natural life in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in order to achieve the 15th goal of #_Sustainable Development 2030, related to protecting and restoring terrestrial ecosystems, managing forests and promoting their sustainable use, and stopping the loss of biodiversity.
