The fourth meeting of the project steering committee “The Universal Periodic Review as a tool for improving public policies during the transition period“, Which is implemented by the Foundation with funding from the European Union over the course of 2016-2017, on Saturday, April 1, 2017, in Cairo.
During the meeting, the achievements of the project since the third meeting of the committee were presented last November. The most prominent achievements of the project over the previous period were the participation of the coalition delegation in the 34th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva from 19-25 March 2017, for the coalition to implement a set of activities that included providing written and oral interventions on some important issues, including strengthening support The technical assistance provided to member states by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the implementation of a series of meetings with officials of the Office of the High Commissioner, permanent missions and international organizations, in addition to the implementation of a side activity on the sidelines of the session to present the coalition report on the evaluation of progress in implementing the recommendations of the second cycle of the UPR.
The committee, consisting of a group of civil work leaders, media professionals and electronic media activists, parliamentarians and experts, aims to ensure access to all target groups in the project at the local level, in addition to participating in the planning and evaluation of project activities, and to enhance cooperation between the project and the various stakeholders to ensure the achievement of the desired results of the project.
Where the committee, during its quarterly meetings, assesses the progress of the project activities and makes suggestions and recommendations regarding the implementation of activities, thus contributing to the regular review, and also engaging in ensuring the participation of beneficiaries and stakeholders in the project efforts, including nominating participants in the activities of the members of the coalition.
