An invitation to establish and join the International Alliance for Peace and Development

Call to establish and join International Peace and Development Alliance

Since the end of the Second World War, the world has not witnessed a threat to the values of peace and human rights such as the threat it is witnessing now, as ethnic and sectarian conflicts expand, extremism grows, terrorism, organized crime and violence expand, the foundations for the peaceful and democratic transfer of power in different regions of the world are disrupted, and standards of justice and fairness are absent. And despite the UN system’s attempts to adopt strategies and plans with the aim of promoting peace and achieving sustainable development in all its dimensions in accordance with the goals of the United Nations, most of these attempts do not reach their goal for various political, human, social and cultural reasons.

From here, and based on their moral responsibility as independent and voluntary organizations, civil society organizations in various regions of the world have an obligation to contribute to the achievement of peace and development and to reconsider the human rights values agreed upon by the world since 1948 and included in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and then expressed them in detail. The package of human rights conventions and covenants adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in succession to try to develop a legal framework that guarantees the commitment of states, governments and various groups to respect basic rights and public freedoms and to consolidate the foundations of coexistence between peoples, groups and individuals, as well as what is included in the United Nations goals of sustainable development

Therefore, Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights calls for the establishment of International Peace and Development Alliance “To act as a coalition that includes a group of active and influential non-governmental organizations that can work together to improve the human rights situation, promote peace, confront violence, terrorism and intimidation, and work effectively through international, regional and national forums and mechanisms to stop the spread of those practices that oppose human values and threaten global peace.

The coalition will include organizations interested in issues of peace, democracy, human rights, and countering extremism and terrorism across the world, whether or not they have a consultative status in the Economic and Social Council.
