About the institution and the project

Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights is an Egyptian non-governmental, non-profit and non-partisan organization that is known in accordance with the provisions of Law 84 of 2002 amended by Law 149 of 2019 for NGOs, and it holds the consultative status of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations and a member of the General Assembly of the Economic and Social Council of the African Union, and coordinator North Africa Group at the UN High Level Policy Forum on Sustainable Development, and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Egyptian National Network of the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures.

The Foundation applies standards of good governance, adheres to a responsive approach to human rights, and is particularly concerned with issues of peace and sustainable development, by building the capacities of relevant stakeholders and working with the international and regional system concerned with peace and human rights.

The Maat Foundation cooperates with the North-South Center - Council of Europe in the implementation of the project “Strengthening the role of youth in building peace and security in the southern Mediterranean”, which seeks to enhance youth participation in peace building and security-keeping processes that achieve sustainable peace. The project targets young people from Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco, and the most prominent interventions of the project are to strengthen the role of a group of young people in implementing Security Council Resolution 2250; Raise their capabilities to engage in peacebuilding processes through community initiatives; Preparing a group of targeted youth to engage in effective dialogue with decision-makers in their countries. Building a regional network of young workers and those interested in the field of security and peace.

The project is funded by the initiative “Initial funding for grass-roots initiatives on youth participation in peace and democracy processes in the Euro-Mediterranean region” promoted by the North-South Center of the Council of Europe within the framework of the Third South Program funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe.

Mission description

In this context, Maat seeks to contract with a training consultant who specializes in working with youth and has experience in peace issues and initiatives in support of peace building and tolerance, rejecting violence and extremism and combating terrorism, to implement a five-day training program in Cairo for (12) young people from countries (Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco) During the period from December 21 to December 25, 2019.

The training aims to build the capacity of young people from the southern Mediterranean region on issues of rejection of violence and extremism and to strengthen their role in building sustainable peace in the southern Mediterranean region.

   The training program will include several axes, including the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy and Security Council Resolution 2250, and how to promote intercultural dialogue and peaceful coexistence, in addition to raising the skills of young people to undertake popular initiatives to promote a culture of peace for groups that are most marginalized and most vulnerable to extremism, and to enhance their capabilities to prepare campaigns against speeches. The training will also include other axes, such as those related to the concepts of extremism, radicalization, societal integration and sustainable peace, as well as enabling youth to hold round tables with decision makers in the target countries (Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco).

Components of the technical offer

Those wishing to undertake the task must submit a complete technical offer that includes a package of information and the required documents that help the evaluation committee select the winning bidder, and these information and documents are as follows:

  • The methodology that the trainer will use in transferring knowledge and developing the skills of the participants, with the necessity to rely on an appropriate participatory approach.
  • The main axes of the training program, including a brief description of each axis, provided that the axes reflect the objectives expected from the workshop and included in the task description
  • The training matrix includes the topics of the sessions, the contents of each session, its goal, the training methods used, the required tools, and the timeframe.
  • CV of the trainer / group of coaches, including previous experience in similar fields.

The expected outputs from the coach

  • Training material in Arabic (the language in which the training is carried out)
  • Review and review the training material with the Maat Foundation team and design the final form of the material and the training workshop accordingly.
  • Trainer's report in Arabic

financial offer

Those who wish to implement the program must submit a financial proposal indicating the financial costs of the workshop, including its outputs previously referred to, divided into working days that suit the task and indicating the total lump sum amount determined by the legal deductions for taxes, including value-added tax.
