Drawing a Smile on the Faces of Helwan Children One Step Forward

Maat for Peace, Development, and Human Rights continues its implementation for the activities of "Integrated Protection for the Families of Prisoners and Detainees – Integration and Rehabilitation" Project funded by the Swiss foundation Drosos.
In this framework, an entertainment trip for prisoners and detainees children in Helwan was organized on Saturday, April 27th, 2013. In general, the trips aim to integrate the target group children with natural children, they spend the whole day outdoors and get involved in an entertainment, educational program that was neatly developed by social workers and psychologists to build positive relations between the children via implementing group activities and interactive games where they work together and share art work (including painting on glass & ceramics, pottery making) and the village provides them with those materials and tools.
The day also included group games starting with drawings with the name "Egypt beautiful landmarks" on them, the children competed to use colors on drawings, glass, and ceramics to express Egypt's beauty and touristic landmarks, the trip program also included psychosocial sessions entitled " point of contact" where social workers adopted communication through art approach, the trip program also worked on creating connections, positive behaviors, and renounce violence between the children.
Those different activities consolidated positive, accepted, and educational values (such as team work, communication, self confidence, honesty, cooperation, integrity, and integration in the society). It's worth mentioning that natural leaders and volunteers participated in the trip with the project team, social workers and psychologists. The participants agreed to adopt "one step forward" to be the trip slogan.
