Increasing Darfur deaths: Maat warns of continuing tensions

More than 60 people have been killed and about 60 others injured in an armed attack in the # region of Darfur, Sudan, so far in the attack that occurred the day before yesterday, Saturday, in the village of Masteri near the border with # in Chad, and 48 kilometers south of # El Geneina, West Darfur state.

The Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights warns of continuing tensions in West Darfur, which have increased in recent weeks. It resulted in the burning of many villages and homes, looting of markets and shops, and damage to the infrastructure. This is despite the # closure imposed by the West Darfur government, on 20 July, in Al-Geneina and the neighboring Al-Bayda # area.

Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights calls on the # Sudanese security forces to quickly intervene to stop these tensions, with the necessity to adhere to restraint in dealing with them.
