The lens of terrorist operations in Africa, April 2020

Introduction:

Since the beginning of the 1990s, the African continent has been suffering from the concentration of a number of armed terrorist groups that operate under the guise of religion, representing black terrorism, which is the first challenge facing the continent today. In fact, the frequency of terrorism is increasing dramatically in light of the poor conditions afflicting the countries of the continent, and at the same time that the whole world is facing the threat of the Coronavirus (Covid 19), and terrorist operations have increased in number and victims compared to last March, in which the Maat Foundation for Peace and Development monitored And human rights, 20 terrorist attacks caused the death of 353 people, to more than 47 terrorist attacks that caused the death of 409 people. Terrorist groups did not hesitate to commit more atrocities this month as well, to continue suffering of the citizens of the continent between the wounds of human terrorism and biophobia.

In the year 2020, which the African Union considered its slogan “Silencing the guns,” the importance of this type of reporting comes in tracking and monitoring the most prominent terrorist attacks on the African continent during the month of March 2020, so it is necessary first to identify the most prominent terrorist outposts in the five African regions to extract the most prominent of these bloody groups. Those countries were most affected.

The African Affairs and Sustainable Development Unit of the Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights presents this report out of its interest in achieving Goal (16) of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and aspiration (4) Africa's Sustainable Development Agenda 2063.
