Aqeel: Terrorist groups and illegal funds between the human and drug trade

 The Maat Foundation held today, 17 September 2019, at the headquarters of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, in its 42nd session, entitled Terrorist Groups between Confrontation and Development.

 Ayman Aqil Ali emphasized that terrorist groups are forming new patterns of performance in terms of organization, and they are using digital technology to recruit youth.

He also explained that terrorist groups depend for their financing on oil, proceeds, ransom payments, thefts, human trafficking and drug trafficking as sources of funding, in addition to donations from some wealthy people and support from some countries such as Iran and Qatar.

He added that terrorist groups used Bitcoin, which is the alternative virtual currency after the events of September 11, which is the currency that is dealt with over the Internet and is not controlled by any authority or central banks.
