New tribal violence in Abyei

At least 32 people, including 9 children and a number of women and the elderly, were killed by militia members belonging to a Sudanese tribe, in the "Abyei" area on the borders between Sudan and South Sudan.

That militia burned many homes in the village of Klum, northwest of Abyei, on Wednesday, and killed some unarmed people. A number of children were kidnapped By the attackers.

Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights reiterates its recommendation to the Sudanese government to work to spread a culture of peace and community acceptance, reject tribal violence and uphold the values of dialogue in places of tension. It also affirms its previous recommendations to establish an observatory to predict such violent events, towards consolidating the sixteenth goal of the 2030 development and sustainable goals.
