Kenya wins a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council

Kenya won membership in the United Nations Security Council, beating Djibouti in a second round of voting in the United Nations General Assembly after the first round that did not produce a specific winner..

Kenya will continue for a two-year period as a member of the 15-nation council at the beginning of next year 2021.

The Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights - which has a consultative status in the United Nations Economic and Social Council - supports the state of Kenya, and hopes that Kenya will assume its responsibility in submitting draft resolution to the Security Council that would refer to sensitive issues related to the peace and security file on the African continent.

The Maat Foundation stresses the necessity of directing the Council's attention to the differences between African countries, which may push towards destabilization of African-African relations.

The Foundation stresses that one of the most important files that must be taken into account is the interventions of some countries from outside the continent that lead to stirring up wars at home, just to achieve their expansionist ambitions at the expense of the continent's citizens.
