On the International Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Awareness Day, Maat Foundation affirms its concern about the continued presence of a destructive force that poses a threat to humanity, which is the continued presence of weapons of mass destruction, especially nuclear weapons, as well as the illegal trade in small and light weapons and the transfer of weapons and the diversion of their destination between countries, which Endangers international peace and security, poor conditions in areas affected by armed conflicts, and high crime rates at the national and global levels.
In the context of the importance of raising awareness of disarmament and non-proliferation, the Maat Ali Foundation held many educational and educational workshops in the field of international humanitarian law, disarmament and non-proliferation, with many international bodies, and with the participation of young people in Egyptian and foreign universities, and also held trainings with the aim of educating young people and involving them in The field of disarmament, and all of this within the framework of Maat’s interest in disarmament and youth empowerment as well, which coincides with the desire of the General Assembly to launch the International Day of Awareness of Disarmament and Non-Proliferation to promote better awareness and understanding of disarmament issues among the public, especially youth.
It is worth noting that the International Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Awareness Day is being celebrated today for the first time, after the General Assembly adopted, on December 7, 2022, a resolution declaring March 5 as the International Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Awareness Day.
