Cutting off the internet during exam days ... a means to combat fraud or acts that cause heavy losses

Some countries recently tried to find ways to combat the phenomenon of # fraud in # examinations; In line with the rapid development of social media, some governments have cut # the Internet for the entire country for more than three hours a day during the exam period.

We find # Algeria among those countries that have resorted to this method under the pretext of combating fraud during the period of the general secondary examinations (# baccalaureate), starting from Sunday, September 13th, partly during the time of taking the exams. It is worth noting that it is not the first time that Algeria has resorted to this method to cut off the Internet, in June 2018 the government also cut off the Internet for the same reason.

Also two days later, the Sudanese # government cut off the internet during the Sudanese certification exams, from 8 am to 11 am. This led to the spread of the hashtag #_cut_internet_crime on Sudanese social media.

It is worth noting that the crisis of leakage of exams is not limited only to the period of performing the exam itself, but the leakage may be with printing the exams and distributing them to schools, especially with the high rates of # bribery and # corruption among the various government sectors.

Maat Foundation believes that this behavior greatly affects other aspects, especially in the economic, social and cultural sectors. It is feared that such tools will continue to be used in other similar circumstances, using the same arguments, affecting different political and economic rights.

The Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights recommends that governments find new ways to reform the education system and the challenges that exist in it, including the phenomenon of fraud and lack of resources, which in turn affects the fourth goal of the sustainable development goals related to "good education", and to strive to find other solutions that do not affect Other sectors and individuals.
