All peoples have the right to self-determination

Despite all international efforts to end colonialism, and international texts to give states the right to self-determination, especially what Article (1) of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights stipulated that “all peoples have the right to self-determination,” yet the Chagos Archipelago of the state of Mauritius ; It remains a British colony to this day, and the United Kingdom refuses to hand it over to the southeastern African country.

This is despite the fact that in May 2019, the United Nations General Assembly voted overwhelmingly to return the Chagos Islands to Mauritius, with a majority of 116 countries, compared to only 6. The General Assembly decision came only 3 months after the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice. Of the need to leave the UK "as soon as possible".

Britain is still leasing to the United States of America the largest island of this archipelago, "Diego Garcia", on which it built its military base. It does not recognize the mandate and legality of the UN General Assembly vote, nor the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, and considers it interference by the General Assembly in a conflict between two states.
