What continues the suffering of women in Somalia?

In the midst of the fifth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals 2030, which aims to promote full equality between the gender in all aspects of life. Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights would like to shed some light on the deteriorating conditions that women and girls still suffer from in Somalia, where Somali women live among the cultural legacies and the deteriorating humanitarian and political conditions.
Somalia recorded high rates globally with regard to women and girls rights, in particular those related to gender-based, sexual violence and all forms of degrading treatment; Recent statistics indicate that 98% of women between the ages of 15 and 19 have undergone FGM.
In light of these acts violations that the human rights environment in Somalia has for a long time, and in the context of its interest in promoting women’s rights and sustainable development goals, the Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights recommends to the Federal Somali Government the need to develop an effective legal framework to deal with these phenomena and violations and work to raise awareness Cultural towards the status and role of women in Somalia. As well as working to intensify national efforts towards protecting women and girls in areas where terrorist and extremist groups are spread.
