Maat Foundation submitted its intervention to the Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial Killings

Maat Foundation deposited its intervention with the Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial killing

Within the framework of Maat Foundation's participation in the 41st session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, during its participation in the interactive dialogue session with the Special Rapporteur, Agnes Callamard, on extrajudicial killing, the Foundation deposited its intervention and welcomed the Maat Foundation's report, as the Foundation affirms that the right In life is guaranteed by Article 3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and Article 6 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. Exceptional circumstances, including state of war, threat of war, internal political instability, or any other state of emergency, may not be invoked to justify extrajudicial, summary, or arbitrary executions.

The report of Ms. Callamard, the Special Rapporteur, focused on the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. The Foundation strongly condemns this crime and calls on the Saudi government to complete the investigation into this case to uncover the truth and hold those responsible accountable. However, the report ignored the violations of international human rights and humanitarian law by the Houthi militia in Yemen, as incidents of extrajudicial killings and arbitrary executions spread, and assassinations constituted one of the most serious sources of violation of the right to life. Since the beginning of the conflict, the militia has carried out a number of assassinations in areas that resist its military control, as it continues to target citizens, politicians, media professionals, human rights defenders, and mosque preachers.

The report also ignored the incident of the killing of the Palestinian citizen Zaki Mubarak in Turkish prisons, which the Turkish authorities claimed that he committed suicide at a time when his family claims that he was killed as a result of torture, as the forensic report showed traces of wounds, and the Maat Foundation had submitted a complaint to the Special Rapporteur on the killing outside the framework of The judiciary has not received a response yet, and then the Maat Foundation calls for an international investigation to determine the causes of death and hold those responsible for this crime accountable.
