Aqeel: Terrorist operations in countries around the world represent an explicit threat and violation of the right to life

Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights condemns the terrorist attack carried out by an armed group in a number of locations in the center of the Austrian capital, Vienna, on Monday evening, October 2, 2020, in an operation that began outside the main Jewish temple, killing and wounding more than 16 civilians.

Security sources said that one of the perpetrators of the accident was identified and he was of Albanian origin and was 20 years old, born and raised in Vienna, and he was among the people who were prevented from traveling to Syria to participate in the fighting within ISIS, and he is sympathetic to the organization and was killed during the clash with the security forces. In contrast, many of his accomplices in crime are still free, and their number has not yet been identified.

For his part, Ayman Aqil, President of Maat Foundation, condemned the criminal acts aimed at destabilizing the security and stability of states, which are inconsistent with all religious and human values and principles, and which represent an attack on a basic human right, which is the right to life, which is guaranteed by all international charters and agreements. Aqeel also reiterated the international collective responsibility in the face of terrorist crimes, and the importance of sincere international solidarity in combating these grave violations and clearly condemning them, and adopting a more effective strategy to confront terrorism wherever it occurs, to dry up its sources, and to punish the countries that support it.

The Maat Foundation offers its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and its wishes for a speedy recovery for the injured, stressing its solidarity with the citizens of Austria in the fight against terrorism and extremism. The Foundation also renews its stance that strongly rejects all forms of violence, extremism and terrorism. The Foundation affirms that terrorist crimes represent an attack on the package of rights and freedoms approved by international covenants and agreements, the most important of which is the right to life, liberty and personal security.
