The Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights is in solidarity with the Belgian people and government in the difficult moments they are going through, as a result of the painful terrorist incident that targeted Brussels airport and some metro stations, and has so far killed 35 people and left about 135 injured.

The brutal terrorist incident in the Belgian capital confirms beyond a reasonable doubt that terrorism has become the biggest and most important challenge to human rights, and the biggest threat to global peace and security, as it is part of the series of successive terrorist operations that the southern Mediterranean countries have witnessed over the past months, such as Egypt and Tunisia, and the corresponding West Bank countries. On the European side, such as France and Belgium, it is also impossible to separate the terrorist tide from the events taking place in the Arab region.

Maat Foundation, while affirming its condemnation of all forms of violence, terrorism and intimidation of the safe, reiterates its call to international forces and international and regional institutions to adopt a comprehensive approach in the war on terror, intellectually, financially and organizationally, and to lift the cover from countries that sponsor and support terrorism and violence.

It is also the effort that the European Union should play a tangible and effective role in stopping all forms of support or sympathy with any of the organizations that are proven to be involved in financing or supporting terrorists, especially since there are countries that provide a safe haven and shelter for those accused of practicing and supporting terrorism.

The Brussels sinful bombings came to prove once again that terrorism is the enemy of humanity, that it has no religion or homeland, and that it does not differentiate between a developed country and another poor, or a country that is experiencing a democratic climate and another that is still going through a political transition, and therefore it requires real concerted international efforts to combat it.

These successive events witnessed by several European countries also prove that the continuation of crises, tensions and civil wars in Libya, Syria, Yemen, and Iraq, as well as the Palestinians being deprived of their right to establish their independent state, all this leads to the terrorist groups gaining larger areas and making them expand And it is able to reach its crimes outside the borders of the region, to afflict not only the innocent in the Arab region, but the innocent in Europe as well.

Therefore, the Maat Foundation calls on European countries to extend a helping hand to the southern Mediterranean countries and to help them defeat terrorist organizations, by using their weight and capabilities to reach comprehensive and radical solutions to the crises in countries such as Libya, Syria, Yemen, and Palestine, on the grounds of peoples' right to self-determination. Away from regional and economic interests, away from foreign interventions that do not take the interests of states into consideration.
