Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights is participating in the 34th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva between 19-25 March 2017 through a high-level delegation that includes a group of members The Egyptian Civil Society Organizations Coalition for the Universal Periodic Review“, Which is the coalition that was established in May 2016 and includes in its membership 220 Egyptian NGOs until January 2017.

The coalition is currently preparing a report on the human rights situation in the period between March 2015 - January 2017, to be sent to the Human Rights Council within the next few days, provided that the report is submitted and the human rights situation in Egypt is discussed and the state has made progress on related human rights issues. With the recommendations fully or partially accepted by the Egyptian government, through a seminar that the delegation will hold at the headquarters of the Human Rights Council in Geneva on the sidelines of the session with the participation of a group of international actors and stakeholders.

In this context, Maat Foundation has contacted the ministries and national councils concerned with the recommendations, to follow up on the implementation by these bodies of the recommendations of the UPR and the extent to which they are integrated into the relevant plans, programs and budgets, with the aim of highlighting the successes achieved by the Egyptian government in implementing the recommendations, in addition to shedding light on the challenges. It faced the state’s commitment to its international obligations and the submission of proposals to address these challenges.

It is worth noting that the Maat Foundation holds a consultative status in the United Nations Economic and Social Council, and the Foundation has been keen since its inception to communicate with international mechanisms for the protection of human rights by sending reports on human rights situations regularly to the United Nations Human Rights Council, in addition to participating in interactive dialogue sessions. To discuss Egypt's report in the UPR. The Foundation is also keen to involve the various governmental institutions in its activities related to the international mechanisms for the protection of human rights by inviting representatives of government institutions to participate in the activities, sending reports and the results of the institution’s work to the relevant government agencies, and constantly communicating with the parliament to take into account Egypt's international obligations during the legislative process .
