Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights condemns in the strongest terms the Turkish military intervention against Syria, which it carried out yesterday, Wednesday, on the regions of northeastern Syria, specifically the cities of Tal Abyad and Ras al-Ain, which resulted in deaths and injuries among civilians.

The death toll from the first day of the operation, which Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called Operation Peace Spring, reached 15 dead, including 8 civilians, and 7 members of the Syrian Democratic Forces were killed and 28 others were wounded, after warplanes bombed the cities of Ras al-Ain and Ain. Issa, in conjunction with artillery fire on the city of Tal Abyad, where a civilian was killed and two others were wounded with the first missile. After that, the Turkish aggression expanded from the city of Hasaka on the banks of the Tigris River in the far east to Kobani on the banks of the Euphrates, at a distance of about 450 km.

Aqil confirmed that the Erdogan regime was accustomed to aggression against the Syrian people, in February 2015, the Turkish incursion into the Syrian territories took place, under the pretext of moving the tomb of Suleiman Shah from the province of Aleppo, and in November of the same year the Turkish air defense shot down a Russian plane claiming it violated Turkish airspace, which Ankara apologized for him later. In August 2016, Turkey launched Operation Euphrates Shield inside the Syrian territories under the pretext of fighting ISIS, and that operation targeted the cities of Jarablus, Azaz, and Al-Bab, which were controlled by the Kurdish units. In October 2016, the Turkish army intervened in the countryside of Idlib, which left a large number of civilian casualties, and in January 2019 the Turkish President launched Operation Olive Branch, which targeted the Kurds inside the Syrian territories.
