Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights expresses its strong condemnation of the barbaric behavior of an irresponsible group in Minya governorate towards an elderly Egyptian woman, against the background of the reported discovery of an illegal relationship between the victim's son and a woman from the perpetrators' family.

The Foundation stresses that it is morally or legally unacceptable to practice violence against an elderly woman, regardless of the justifications and reasons. It also warns of the danger of looking superficially and minimizing the impact of these events. The state must be present with its prestige and power in such situations in order to revoke the perpetrator and take the right of the victim. .

While Maat Foundation affirms that the law should be the master of the situation in such incidents, it calls on law enforcement agencies and the public prosecution to take swift and final steps in order to refer perpetrators to the judiciary to obtain deterrent punishment for their act that violates the law, and establishes sectarian strife and undermines social peace And it contradicts the most basic principles of humanity.

The Maat Foundation also notes the need to take effective legislative and procedural steps in the near future in order to ensure that such practices are not repeated that contradict the principle of citizenship, and to enhance the value of respect for the law and sedition in its infancy, in implementation of the provisions of the Egyptian constitution, and in fulfillment of Egypt's international obligations, especially its obligations before The universal periodic review mechanism, during which Egypt accepted several recommendations related to the promotion of religious tolerance.
