Maat condemns the terrorist crimes in Spain and Finland

There is no substitute for ideological confrontation and activating UN resolutions against states that sponsor terrorism

The Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights expresses its strong condemnation of the terrorist crimes that Spain and Finland witnessed in the past two days, and expresses its condolences to the families of the victims and their solidarity with the Spanish and Finnish peoples and the governments of the two countries in these difficult moments, where Spain and Finland witnessed the perpetrators of terrorist organizations committed a crime He ran over with a car that killed 13 people and left a number of injured in Barcelona, Spain, and was followed by a stabbing crime that killed two people in Finland.

Maat Foundation stresses that the two crimes affirm the need to adopt a more comprehensive approach to confront the terrorist phenomenon, which has become the biggest and most important threat to human rights in general and the right to life as the most sacred of rights in particular, especially since terrorist organizations are now moving to change their offensive tactics to adapt to the tightening of security measures that have led Due to the difficulty of transporting explosives, advanced weapons, and professional terrorists, it resorted to recruiting young men from within the target countries and supporting them to carry out terrorist acts using the simple tools available and traditional techniques that do not require professionals or prior training, and the ramming and stabbing methods are the most prominent examples of these techniques.

Therefore, the intellectual confrontation has become a necessity to prevent terrorist organizations from recruiting new members, just as deterring countries that sponsor terrorist organizations and provide them with media platforms and safe havens is gaining increasing importance at the present time, and we mention here the need to activate relevant UN resolutions and agreements, chiefly the Security Council resolution No. 1373, which included an explicit ban that compels states not to provide any kind of support to persons involved in committing terrorist crimes, as well as the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism adopted by the United Nations and offered it to signature, ratification and accession in accordance with its Resolution No. 54 /,109, dated December 9, 1999, as well as the relevant resolutions of the Human Rights Council, including the “Impact of Terrorism on the Enjoyment of Human Rights” resolution, which explicitly urges all states to reject all forms of support provided to terrorists, and to refuse to provide a safe haven for them or for whom Incite the commission of terrorist crimes
