Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights condemns the terrorist operation that targeted the Azbakeya section in central Cairo yesterday evening, which did not result in loss of life, but resulted in some damage to some police equipment in the vicinity of the section.

Maat reiterates its firm position against and rejecting in the strongest terms the terrorist crimes that Egypt is witnessing after the June 30 2013 Revolution and the July 3, 2013 measures that complement them, it would like to emphasize the following: -

1- The recent terrorist crime - despite its limited scope and effects - confirms that the target of these operations is the third and last of the future map entitlements that the national forces agreed upon on July 3, 2013, especially since the operation comes a few days before the polling and counting process of the first phase of the process Electoral.

2- The observed relative decline in the scope of the impact of terrorist crimes and the extent of the resulting damages indicates an estimated progress in the pre-emptive security plans and measures, which is the progress that the responsible security authorities call for preservation and continuation.

3- Maat reaffirms the importance of a comprehensive confrontation with terrorism in a manner that is consistent with the official political discourse of Egypt. Here, the importance of drying up the financing and intellectual sources of terrorist groups and organizations, also highlights the importance of long-term strategies related to opening opportunities for youth to participate in public life and create change through mechanisms. Developmental and political that respects the constitution and the law, and rejects violence and extremism.

In conclusion, Maat Foundation reiterates its continuous call to all forces, political parties and civil society organizations to take clear and strong positions that do not accept equivocation or interpretation towards terrorism and its groups, organizations, supporters, financiers and those who provide it with political or media cover.
