Maat welcomes the outcomes of the Libyan political dialogue: "a transition towards a unified, prosperous Libya"

Aqil: A positive step ... We warn against violating the road map agreed upon in the Geneva and Tunis tracks

Pasha: The removal of foreign mercenaries from Libya is a first priority for the new executive authority

Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights welcomes the election of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum as a new executive authority to lead the country towards the general elections scheduled for December 2021, especially after the prolonged severe political crisis, which plunged the country into civil war.

The Maat Foundation believes that the appointment of a unified and agreed transitional executive authority is an important step on the road to stability and a shift towards good governance and institutional unification in Libya, which seeks to adhere to the political paths, remove any obstacles to the full implementation of the ceasefire, and work to expel foreign mercenaries from Libyan lands, and respect Effective international humanitarian law, and the pursuit of "a unified and prosperous Libya."

In this regard, Ayman Akil, president of the Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights commented that it is a pivotal step towards bringing the Libyan ranks together and uniting efforts towards sustainable peace and development. However, the coming period will reflect the seriousness of the parties towards implementing this positive step. Akil warned that the breach of the road map agreed upon in the political tracks in Geneva and Tunisia, or in the event of any breaches of the ceasefire - which are both expected - should not dissuade the parties to the political process from any gains that emerged from the political dialogue forum.

While Abd al-Rahman Pasha, Deputy Director of the African Affairs and Sustainable Development Unit at the Foundation, stated that the next transitional phase should focus on removing foreign mercenaries from Libya as a first step, as well as smoothing the way towards organizing the constitutional referendum and general elections, and cooperating with the United Nations represented by the new UN envoy. To Libya, Jan Kubis. "Pasha" added that political pluralism is required towards achieving good governance and a smooth transfer of power at this stage and beyond.

Maat is deeply concerned about Africa and Lybia because it serves as a member organization of the Economic, Social, and Cultural Council of the African Union (ECOSOCC), and as a monitor in the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights. Maat is also the North Africa Coordinator for the NGO Major Group for Africa affiliated to the UN high-level political forum.
