Maat denounces the terrorist incident that occurred in Benghazi, Libya

Aqeel calls for the respect of the human truce during Eid al-Adha and demands its confirmation

Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights condemns, in the strongest terms, the terrorist bombing that occurred yesterday, Saturday, August 10, by a car bomb in front of a shopping center in the eastern city of Benghazi, which resulted in the killing of a number of civilians, including three United Nations employees, along with eight injuries. The least among them is a child. The Foundation expresses its sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to all the injured.

Ayman Aqil, head of Maat Foundation, stressed that this despicable attack took place in conjunction with the Libyans' preparations to receive Eid al-Adha, in an act that indicates that terrorist groups know nothing but bloodshed, and are far from the lowest standards of humanity.

Aqil notes that the incident reminds us of a similar car bombing that occurred last month in the city of Benghazi, targeting the funeral of a former military commander who worked in the Libyan army, and resulted in 4 deaths, including two members of the Special Forces, which are allied forces of the Libyan army, and yesterday's accident occurred days later. Few of the Libyan army's targeting of a Turkish plane carrying weapons and military equipment upon its arrival in the Libyan city of Misurata to support terrorist groups there.

Aqeel called on all parties in Libya to respect the humanitarian truce during Eid al-Adha called for by the UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salameh, calling on the UN Security Council to work to establish this truce as a start to reach a permanent ceasefire, and to resume the political track to end the Libyan crisis, noting the need for Adherence to peace as an urgent means to achieve stability and prosperity in Libya. He also called for the necessity to dry up the sources of terrorism to achieve this stability.
