Aqeel: Green Economy and Environmental Sustainability are a lifeline for humanity from potential conflicts 

New York, July 10, 2018

The first day of the current session of the high-level policy forum on sustainable development, held in New York from 9 to 18 July, witnessed intense activity by the delegation of Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights and the group of major African organizations.

Ayman Aqil, President of Maat Foundation and President of the African Group, stated that the delegation participated in the opening session of the forum, which included the speech of Mrs. Mary Shatradova, President of the Economic and Social Council, Mr. Louis Zinmen, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations for Economic and Social Affairs, and a well-known international expert, Jaffrey Sachs, Director of the Development Center. Sustainable Development at Columbia University and senior advisor to the United Nations and one of the most important specialists in sustainable development and environmental management issues in the world.

Aqeel pointed out that there is a great focus during this session on issues of green economy, sustainable management of water resources and renewable energy, as they are "hoops" that save humanity from the extreme scarcity of these resources and the conflict around them in a way that threatens world peace

 In fact, the President of the African Group and the President of the Maat Foundation said that the delegation will focus in all its participation, activities and meetings on these issues, and will present constructive proposals and ideas in this regard.

In the same context, Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights participated and made an oral intervention during a side event entitled "Sustainable Societies in Saudi Arabia", which was held by the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations yesterday evening, where it discussed the national strategic event in the Kingdom 2030, and what it entails in establishing a society. Sustainable in Riyadh, where the Ministry of Rural Municipal Affairs takes over this matter, and focuses on the complete recycling of waste in a safe and sustainable manner.

The intervention of Maat Foundation was presented by Mrs. Hajar Moncef, Director of the Sustainable Development and African Affairs Unit, in which she focused on the challenges that the Saudi government faces in implementing measures to achieve sustainable societies and whether the awareness of the Saudi citizen is an obstacle to that, and there was a discussion about the measures taken in this regard in particular The relevant authority in the Kingdom is currently working on activating groups to educate young people and children to grow up on the concept of sustainability
