Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights participated in the "Human Rights in Peace Support Operations" training, which was held in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, from May 27 to June 7, 2019. Representatives from many African countries participated in it, under the auspices of the Danish and Kenyan governments. .

The training focused on the relationship between human rights and international peace and security, how to take advantage of protection and monitoring mechanisms for violations that occur, and highlighted the role of peacekeeping missions, especially in conflict areas in many African countries.

Maat Foundation, as a representative of the Egyptian civil society, participated in the training, which includes participants from 11 African countries, from military, police and civilian backgrounds, with a large representation of peacekeeping missions on the continent.

Ayman Aqil, president of the Maat Foundation, stated that building peace requires the concerted efforts of civil society and governments, in order to confront extremism at all levels. Aqeel stressed the need for approaching human rights to be the basis for the work of peacekeeping missions in the African continent.

The foundation was represented by Abd al-Rahman Pasha; The researcher at the African Affairs Unit, who emphasized the importance of impartiality, objectivity and independence in the work of UN missions, and that they work according to the general human rights context on the ground, not just implementing "closed office" policies.

The participation of Maat Foundation comes in the context of its interest in the human rights, peace and security situation in Africa, and based on its responsibility as a member of the General Assembly of the Economic, Social and Cultural Council of the African Union, as well as being the regional coordinator for North Africa in the group of major NGOs in Africa.
