MAAT contributes to theadoption of Egypt's reportsession within the Universal Periodic Review of in Geneva In a written statement: MAAT calls foramending the NGOs law and enacting a comprehensive legislation for health insurance

Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights participated today, Friday, 20March 2015 in the session to adopt Egypt’sreport beforethe universal periodic review during the 28th UN Human Rights Council session in Geneva, where MAAT submitted a written intervention in collaboration with the International Institute for Peace, Justice and Human Rights.

In its intervention, MAAT called the Egyptian government and the anticipated parliament to amend the legislations to be consistent with the constitution, where the Foundation highlighted the amendment of the Non-Governmental Associations and Institutions Law No. 84 of 2002 to be consistent with article No. 75 of the new constitution, so it will allow the associations' establishment by notification, and will provide the freedom of work and receiving funds in the context of the community and state authorities observation without restrictions, where dissolution of the associations will be only decided by a final judicial ruling.

MAAT called for the state public budgets dedicated allocations be spent on health and education to be consistent with the constitution in order to fulfill the health and educational rights for citizens, with the necessity to develop health insurance policies and enact legislation ensuring the coverage of all Egyptian people by the health insurance.

MAAT pointed out the challenges facing the Egyptian state, especially in regards to terrorism, the Foundation called the world states to support the Egyptian people in this context to dry up the financial, ideological and media sources for terrorism. MAAT also stated its understanding for the economic challenges faced by the Egyptian people in the wake of their second revolution in 30 June 2013, when the Foundation called the Egyptian governorate to exert maximum effort to ensure the respect of human right during its war on terrorism.

It’s worth mentioning that Maat Foundation during the interactive dialogue session in November 2014 participated with a complete delegation, where it conducted several events and meetings inside the UN headquarters in Geneva, during the 28th UN Human Rights Session, the Foundation contributed by one representative to deliver a written statement in cooperation with the IIPJHR in Egypt’s report adoption session according to the governing rules for the UPR mechanisms.
